Kwai Noi river, Kanchanaburi · 6 minutes from the town centre
Rerngwawee is the raft you take when you want the water without taking a whole raft to yourself. Each room floats on the Kwai Noi, two or three people to a room, with the current going past underneath and very little asked of you. Cool season is the one to aim for — a light wind coming down the river, small waves knocking against the raft, trees on both banks.
Breakfast is included for everyone in the room. Bangkok is two to three hours away, which is close enough to leave after work on a Friday and far enough that it stops feeling like the city, and Kanchanaburi town is six minutes by car when you want the bridge, the market or dinner off the resort.
The water is under the floor and audible all night. Some people book for exactly that.
Two to three hours out, no flight, and you are on a raft by dinner.
A room on the water with breakfast, at a rate that leaves money for the boat trips.
Three to a room, so four of you take two rafts — near each other, not together.
River noise, raft movement and early boats. Take a garden room instead.
